How to track your lost or stolen device

How to track your lost or stolen Android phone or mobile device .

This  is one of the questions most device users around the world have in their mind. There are basically two ways track you lost Android phone:
1.Without using a tracking app
2.By using tracking app

I will be discussing how you can do it yourself in both ways via this post.

  1. Without Tracking App:Google Android Device Manager

It is the official tool from Google to track your Android phones and tablets  by signing in to Android Device Manager website. You'll be required to login using the  Google account you used on your lost/stolen device, then you will be able to track and locate it. You need to choose among the devices on the  website if there are many. Once you choose it, then it'll show you the location on the map and you can perform other functions as well.
There are some requirements you need to ensure before you'll be able to do it:

  • Lost/stolen Android device must be connected to a Google account
  •  Th lost device must have an internet access. Nothing can be done without an internet access
  •  You must have enabled Android Device Manager to track your phone through Google ap settings(Normally on by default).

If you satisfy these requirements, follow the steps below:

  • Login to Google's Android Device Manager.
  • You'll be be able to see all your active devices.
  • Click on your lost Android phone and you will be able to see it's location. However,  Google also says location given on map are accurate location.
  • You can perform three action a on this Website: Ring and lock your phones remotely and erase it's data(lock and erase must be allowed for Android Device Manager via Google app settings. Its turned off by default.
  • If you lost it somewhere in your house, office then you can see the location ok the map and you'll be able to figure it out.

2. Using Tracking App: AirDroid

AirDroid is a great alternative which offers similar features to Android device manager. However, AirDroid also provide some features aside from wipe, lock, erase and taking pictures from camera
AirDroid is a free and fast Android app that helps you manage your Android phone/tablet from a web browser, all over the air.

  • It helps Move files on and off your Android device without a USB cable. Even when the device is not nearby.
  • It can also be used to Send and receive SMS from your big-screen computer, without being distracted by the small-screen thing.
  • Locate and lock your Android when it’s lost. Cannot get it back? Simply wipe all data remotely.
AirDroid relies on some features provide by Android Device Administration API, e.g. Erase all data (allows you to erase all data when you cannot get your lost device back), Monitor screen-unlock attempts (allows you to take photos of the people attempting to unlock your device - an upcoming feature), etc.
Note: There are other ways you can use to track you mobile devices.
