Apple iPhone 11 Introduction

The iPhone XR was the first commercial success that emerged in the second attempt to make a more affordable iPhone. The iPhone 5c failed to impress in 2013, and we thought we would never see the manufacturer give this idea another chance. Well, last year the iPhone XR was more than well-received as the best-selling iPhone of the trio, so this year we welcome its sequel: the iPhone 11.

The iPhone XR was a cheaper and dimmed version of the XS generation, with an LCD screen, a short camera and promised excellent battery life. Well, when we say cheaper, we are not saying cheap, since those words mean something different in the Apple universe.

But the truth be told, this year the iPhone 11 is even cheaper than the XR at launch, now priced at $ 700 instead of $ 750. The good news is that nothing has been left and there are some welcome additions to the low-level iPhone.

So, the iPhone 11 retains absolutely the same form and screen factor as the XRs. It uses the same 6.1 "IPS LCD screen with 326ppi and a top-notch that contains Face ID technology. The screen specifications do not change: the same contrast, brightness, haptic touch and so on.

The iPhone 11 features the new Apple A13 Bionic chip, the same SoC that powers the flagship duo of the iPhone 11 Pro. It also has a second camera and is the new 12MP ultra wide-angle snapper, also brought from the Pro models. Features such as cropping out of frame are available, and also recording 4K videos with all cameras at once.


The new 12MP selfie camera has also reached the iPhone 11. It is another 12MP shooter with a 23 mm wide lens and can make normal 4K clips at 60 fps, or 4K videos at 30 fps with expanded dynamic range. Film stabilization is available on the front camera in all modes.

Apple managed to squeeze a larger battery in the same body as last year: now the iPhone 11 has a 3,110 mAh battery compared to the 2,942 mAh unit inside the XR.

The iPhone 11 supports a charge of 18 W but is not included with a quick charger in the box like the Pro models.

Then, a new camera and a new chip, among some new software tricks, are the novelties of the iPhone 11 on the XR. Oh, and Apple is offering 11 in some new colors like Green and Purple (the latter we have here for review).

The iPhone 11 also provides better protection against water and may or may not have a tougher glass on the back and front. We assume that only time and fall accidents will confirm the latter.

The iPhone 11 case is white and only slightly larger than the phone itself. Inside, you'll find the iPhone 11 included with a normal Lightning cable, a pair of EarPods that end in a Lightning plug and the old 5W charger.

Apple no longer sends iPhones with a 3.5mm adapter.

While the iPhone 11 supports a fast 18 W charging via USB Power Delivery, it is not included with the new Apple 18 W charger that comes with the Pro models.
